For a patio the spot is excavated, a compacted sand bed goes in and the tiles or pavers are laid to a slight fall — so rainwater runs away from the facade instead of towards it. Edge restraints keep everything permanently in place.
Expect € 40 to € 90 per m² all-in. For a patio of 15 to 40 m² that means € 750 to € 3,500, depending on material and groundwork. Large ceramic tiles and natural stone demand more precise laying and sit at the top of the band.
Tip: have the contractor look at the adjoining paths right away — the same sand bed and machinery make extra work in one visit relatively cheap.
